20% Project – Baking – Week Six

This week I accomplished my goal I set for myself last week, and it went very well. My goal was to make my script and put together my trifold. Me being me, I put this off to the last minute. On Tuesday I was scrambling to finish everything. Even though I was scrambling I had a plan and i am super happy with the way I executed that idea. An adjustment I had to make was not to use some of the pictures I had because they didn’t fit in the space on the trifold. Overall I’m super happy with my project and nothing went super wrong this week. My plan is to bake brownies tomorrow to have with my project. I’m super excited for tomorrow and hope that I don’t mess up too badly.

Favorite Memories

I have a lot of great memories of this year but there are three memories that were super memorable. One memory that was one of my favorites was making new friends. I thought that after sixth grade you don’t make any new friends because you made friends in sixth grade but I was proven wrong and that makes me so happy. I got closer to my existing friends and made tons of new ones. I love getting to move around during lunch and talk with all of my different friends. They are all super nice and I love hanging out with them. Even though I only met some of them this year I feel like I’ve known them for ages. I love hanging out with them during class too. They are all such amazing people and I’m so happy to be able to call them my friends. Another memory that was one of my favorites was playing games or having free time in math. I enjoyed this a lot because our math teacher is one of the nicest human beings on the entire planet. She is so nice and understanding that I’m so happy she was one of my teachers this year. Another thing I really enjoyed was choir. At first I was terrified because I didn’t really know anyone in choir but I made friends there and I’m so happy I did. Choir was super fun and I’m so happy that it pushed me out of my comfort zone. I never sing in front of other people but choir has made me really want to because of how amazing the people in there are. They’ve all been through similar things and I’m so happy I decided to take choir this year. All the people I met this year made me want to come to school everyday. I want to thank everyone who made me happy or was my friend. Even if I haven’t thanked you in person, I am so thankful for you and don’t know what I’d do without any of you.

Baking Success! – 20% Project Week Four: Baking

This week I accomplished my goal I set for myself last week, and it went very well. My goal very to make sugar cookies and then use royal icing to put the decorations on them. I spread my project out over three days. On the first day I made the cookies. On the second day I made the icing and frosting my base layer onto the cookies. Some of them got very overflooded. On the third day I added my final details onto the cookies. An adjustment I had to make was to spread out the time I used to do my project because I needed to let the royal icing dry before adding any other details on them. If you don’t let it dry then all the colors melt together. Nothing went wrong this week. Next week I will be baking brookies, which is a layer of cookie with a layer of brownie on top.

Rad Reading – April

In April, I read the book Tell Me Three Things by Jane BuxBaum. Tell Me Three Things is a realistic fiction book about a girl named Jessie. Jessie moves from Chicago to Los Angeles and is nervous about going to a new school. She is even considering moving back to Chicago. Jessie starts receiving anonymous emails from someone by the name Somebody/Nobody after some of the popular girls start teasing her. He is giving her advice on school and how to survive. Can Jessie figure out who Somebody/Nobody is while trying not to fall in love with him.

I enjoyed Tell Me Three Things because the characters were like people that are in an average life. I enjoyed this book because it was cool to listen to who she thinks it is and how she figures out who it is. It was interesting because as a reader you could come up with your own ideas of who Somebody/Nobody could be. I enjoyed how the book wasn’t like any other high school book and was more unpredictable.

My favorite character from Tell Me Three Things was Jessie. Jessie was very optimistic about everything that was going on even though she was thrust into a situation that would be any average person’s worst nightmare. She was a super relatable character which made it easier to understand her.

My favorite quote from Tell Me Three Things was, ““Just because you’re strong doesn’t mean you shouldn’t ask for help sometimes. Remember that.” This quote was my favorite because it supported something that I feel very strongly about because nobody should be afraid of asking for help.

When Will Enough be Enough?

The people in this picture are very different people in very different scenarios with very different beliefs and opinions. The boy in the first picture is surrounded by tons of toys but is crying. The second boy is playing outside with a homemade toy, having the time of his life. The caption of the picture is something that I think is very true. The boy in the first picture has everything he could ever want but is unhappy. It could be that he didn’t get the toy he wanted or that he got less toys then last year (Harry Potter reference). It seems like he lives in a wealthy house that he gets whatever he wants. The boy in the second picture looks like he comes from a less wealthy home, so he is very grateful for everything that he has or gets. The toy car made out of sticks probably meant the world to him. The caption means that everyone will be satisfied at a different point, after they reach what they believe is enough. The first boy seems like nothing will ever be enough and the second boy seems like nothing was enough for him so one thing makes him super happy. Depending on who you are one might be enough or one hundred might be enough. It all depends on the person.

Loved Baking This Week – 20% Project Week Five: Baking

This week I accomplished my goal I set for myself last week, and it went very well. My goal very to make brookies which is a layer of cookie with a layer of brownie on top. I spread my project out over two days. On the first day I made the cookie layer. On the second day I made the brownie layer. They both went really well and tasted absolutely amazing. An adjustment I had to make was to spread out the time I used to do my project because I didn’t have enough time to do the entire project within one day. The batters for both tasted amazing too. Nothing went wrong this week. Next week I will be deciding what I’m going to bake and (fingers crossed) finding time to bake it before next week.

Home Sweet Home

I love every room in my house but my favorite room is my bedroom. My favorite room is my bedroom because it is a room that is filled with pictures that make me happy. I have a wall in my room that has a bunch of pictures on it. It has pictures of me, my sister, my friends, and random Harry Potter pictures. Looking at those pictures make me happy and some of them remind me of amazing moments and people that are in my life. Another thing I love in my room is my bed. My bed is super comfortable and I sleep on it (duh). Every time I look at my bed it reminds me of a game I used to play with my sister where we would run and jump onto the bed from the hallways and try to stick the landing. If we were really bored we would take slow motion videos of ourselves jumping. They always made us laugh. Every night I sleep with a quilt that was made for me by my mom’s friend’s mom when I was a baby. It’s covered in ladybugs and random Disney princesses. It’s super comfortable and I can’t sleep without it. Another thing that I like in my room is my window. My window looks out on my driveway and front yard. I can see a bunch of the flower bushes and other plants that my dad has planted. I also keep random stuff on my windowsill that make me happy to look at when I wake up in the morning. Lastly, I like the posters I have in my room. Some of the posters I have, I bought at the book fair when I was in elementary school and just make me happy because it reminds me of the many hours that I spent there (I still go to the book fair at my sisters school because I love it so much). Everything in my room makes me super happy and intend to constantly keep adding more things.

Baking Flop – 20% Project Week Two: Baking

This week I accomplished the goal I set for myself last week, but it didn’t go as planned. My goal from last week was to make mini cheesecakes and put chocolate dipped strawberries on top. I technically accomplished that goal I made the cheesecakes and they were perfectly fine until they were cooling and started to cave in all of a sudden. The chocolate melts got stuck together and didn’t melt so I couldn’t use the chocolate. As an adjustment I decided that I am going to do research of what could go wrong and how to fix it so that I can troubleshoot. Next week I will be making royal icing and sugar cookies.

Not Much – 20% Project Week Two: Baking

Hello my name is Sydney, for my 20% project I am doing baking. This week my goal was to find recipes to bake at home. I was convinced that I wanted to make something involving chocolate covered fruit. I found lots of different desserts that look like they would be fun to make and eat. I decided that I was going to make mini cheesecakes with mini chocolate covered strawberries. This week was pretty productive. I found my recipe and made my ingredient list. I did not have to change anything. Because I didn’t change anything, I did not have any alters. Next week I will be finding a new recipe.

Rad Reading – March

In March I read the book Allegedly by Tiffany D. JacksonAllegedly is a realistic fiction book about a girl named Mary. Mary killed a bay when she was nine years old. Allegedly. Mary had always been a smart and kind girl. She was close with her mom and do anything for her. Mary went to baby jail for years because of what she allegedly did. Mary got sent to a group home after baby jail and after she becomes pregnant, is trying to show what really happened in her story so she can keep her baby.

I loved Allegedly for many reasons. One reason is that right when you thought that you had Allegedly all figured out, it throws another curveball at you. Another reason that I enjoyed it was because it was unique and not a relatable story. This made the story interesting because the imagery was amazing you could understand where she was and draw a map in your head of everywhere she went throughout the story.

My favorite character from Allegedly was Mary. Mary is a very loyal person. Even though Mary lives a different way then us and is forced to do everything differently, she remains loyal to her mother throughout most of the book, ”That’s the only advice Momma ever really gave me. Keep praying. God will work everything out. It never occurred to her that maybe she should try to work some things out for herself. Sometimes I wanted to shout, “God’s a little busy, Momma! He can’t find your keys for you all the time!” She was always lazy like that, expecting everyone else to everything for her. God and I share the same problem.” This shows that Mary is loyal to her mom. She doesn’t give up that loyalty until it becomes personal and becomes dependent on the life of another.

My favorite quote from Allegedly is, “Everyone in the house knows what I did. Or thinks they know what I did. … They just want to pretend they know for knowing’s sake.” This is my favorite quote because it shows something that is true in everyday life. People are going to think they know who you are but no one is ever going to truly know unless you tell them. The issue is when they don’t believe you.
